Description: The Viaje C-4 (also styled C4) is a limited-edition premium cigar from Viaje Cigars, designed as a playful, thematic companion to the brand’s TNT line and typically released around the Fourth of July.
It is best known for its distinctive appearance: a short, wide 5 × 56 box-pressed robusto gordo that is capped at both the head and the foot (often with a small pinhole in the foot cap to help release moisture). The shape and dual caps intentionally evoke a block of C-4 plastic explosive, reinforced by packaging in large 75-count crates that look like military explosive boxes. A simple band is usually centered on the cigar.
Key characteristics (especially recent releases)
- Wrapper: Nicaraguan Corojo 99 Maduro (rich, dark, and a signature of recent versions; earlier releases used standard Corojo 99, and one year used Connecticut Broadleaf).
- Binder & Filler: Generally Nicaraguan (full details are often undisclosed, typical of Viaje).
- Strength: Full-bodied/full-strength powerhouse with solid nicotine.
- Flavor profile (common notes across reviews of recent Corojo 99 Maduro versions): dark chocolate/cocoa, espresso, earth, black pepper, cedar/toasted wood, and subtle natural or creamy sweetness. The shorter, wider format delivers a concentrated, relatively quick, intense smoke compared with the longer TNT.
Background
First released in 2011 as a companion to the TNT (which debuted in 2010), the C-4 has seen intermittent limited runs (including 2012, 2013, 2015, 2019, 2023, and a 2026 return after a three-year hiatus). Blends, factories (historically Raíces Cubanas in Honduras, later PDR in the Dominican Republic, and others), and exact components have varied by year. Still, the core concept—bold, explosive-themed limited cigar with the dual-capped box-press shape—has remained consistent. Pricing for recent versions sits in the low-to-mid $11–$12 range per stick.
It targets experienced smokers who enjoy full-bodied, flavorful Nicaraguan-style cigars and appreciate Viaje’s quirky, limited-release approach. The dual-capped construction requires cutting both ends before lighting.
