In 1958, J.C. Newman’s son, Stanford Newman, carried the family legacy forward by acquiring the Cuesta-Rey brand, preserving one of the most storied names in cigar history. When the Cuban embargo of 1961 disrupted access to traditional Cuban tobacco, Stanford’s pursuit of excellence led him to African Cameroon leaf—an extraordinary discovery that forever changed the cigar industry.

The Cuesta-Rey No. 95 became the first cigar in the United States to feature a Cameroon wrapper, delivering a refined and complex flavor once thought lost to history.
